NOW HEAR THIS

VRINDA NORMAND'S coverage of NAIL last month ("Froggers and Loggers," News&Views, Dec. 13) was Amazing. Thank you, Metro Santa Cruz, for doing the dirty work of reporting the story in a day and age of lax journalism. You guys make it happen! Thank you.

A quick reminder to please let people know about the following important public hearing:

Jan. 31: Stop the Logging Plan in the Los Gatos Watershed. Please make your thoughts known before it's too late! Attend the Meeting at the Santa Clara County Chambers. 70 W. Hedding St., San Jose, 7pm. Please attend if you can.

COCINA CANDIDATE

'COCINA Vérité: A Santa Cruz author brings home the flavors of Mexico' (News&Views, Nov. 29) was a wonderful article; I could truly relate. Can you please send Ms. McNair my email? My husband and I have worked on our home for seven years, one room at a time. The kitchen, living room and dining room, as well as our staircase, were influenced by the Mexican, Spanish and Italian culture. We would like to know if Ms. McNair is interested in possibly including our home in a future article. We live in the heart of Texas, San Antonio. Thank you.

Di and Roy Galvan, San Antonio, Texas

HOMELESS HOLOCAUST

I WOULD REALLY like Metro Santa Cruz to look into and do a story on the homeless deaths in Santa Cruz in more depth. According to the City on a Hill press paper, 42 homeless people died in 2006 in Santa Cruz County.

My God, this is a small holocaust!

Also, great comic in last issue on the super bowl!

BURNT IN BOULDER CREEK

A CREAM-COLORED MERCEDES 240D was stolen on Xmas day from the owner's driveway at Sunbeam and Meadow by the Mountain Store. It was taken to Skyline and burned down. This family is devastated as this was their only form of transportation. If you have any tips or information leading to the perpetrator of this horrific and highly illegal crime, please call Officer Dimick in Santa Cruz Sherrif's Dept. (831.662.0691) or San Jose Auto Theft Division at 408.467.5402 and reference car licence no. 3GBT395. Thank you.

The thing about this is that the CHP is seemingly doing nothing. I have been informed by the San Jose CHP auto theft crime unit that there's not much they can do and that the perps wouldn't do jail time anyway, Since when did it become something you could get away with?

Keri, Boulder Creek

EARTH FLAG DAY

GREETINGS. I am making a proposal that the city of Santa Cruz fly an Earth Flag in front of City Hall--downtown Santa Cruz--along with the American and California State flags.

The threat of global warming is surely the No. 1 international security threat to the planet and our future (instead of Bush's threat of "terrorism").I believe it is high time the city of Santa Cruz seize the initiative and declare (our) concern for the environment, both locally and globally, by flying an Earth Flag in front of City Hall--which has become the symbol of the growing global environmental movement.

Voice your support to help make this happen by emailing Santa Cruz Mayor Emily Reilly and City Council at: (Mayor) [email protected]; (Santa Cruz City Council) [email protected]; or write to: City of Santa Cruz, 809 Center St., Santa Cruz, CA 95060.

I am willing to donate a free Earth Flag to the City. Together we can put the city of Santa Cruz on the frontlines in the global struggle to combat Global Climate Change.Let's MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Steve Jones, Santa Cruz
