.The Poems of Ron Lampi

ae Ron LampiEditor’s note:  Ron Lampi is a philosopher-poet, writer, astrologer, lecturer, discussion group facilitator, and creativity consultant. He sees himself as a bard who shares his New Age vision, and, on a local level, as a poet who celebrates his place: the Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay area, where he has lived for more than 35 years. In this week’s Poetry Corner, we spotlight two of Lampi’s poems, taken from his 2012 book, “On the Cruz: Poems of Santa Cruz.”

That She inspires

That She inspires this place/rules this place—

No mere coincidence this is a feminist town,

secure document shredding

why all orientations/progressive persuasions

         find sanctuary here.

She is the ultimate, opened-armed, omni-expression,

ae OnTheCruzfreely-giving Fountain of Divinity—

If you look out over Monterey Bay

& utterly open yourself to Her,

you will witness the Vision of Her—

         She rises resplendent & mercurial

out of the Fountain of the Bay,

& She opens her arms & says,

                  Come, here is your haven,

                  you who suffer intolerance,

you who have never known acceptance—

You, the oddball, eccentric, out there,

you who were somehow attuned differently,

into my arms you are welcome.

They’re Dude’n It

It’s one of those crazy spinnin’ summer fog cookin’ nights

         here on Pacific Ave,

streams of persons just jammin’, cruz’n, boppin’ along,

meetin’, hangin’ out, congregatin’, guitars playin’, music all kinds

         like smoke in the air,

like it’s the place to be for dudes & chicks like pourin’ in thick

         & hot,

and the dudes are like dudes just dude’n it,

they’re dude’n it all over the place—

Hey dude, what dude’n are you dude’n?

Well, I’m tryin’ to dude up this slick chick here, see?

Like I’m the dude who dudes the thing,

I dude it right—

                             Yeah, she likes this dude.

Like, dude, you got it,

                               just keep dude’n

whatever you’re dude’n…

                                   What a dude, dude.

Hey, dude, what’s happenin’?

And so it goes on this endless crazy spinnin’ cruz’n night…
