PEACE OUT

The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run (peacerun.org), history’s largest peace torch relay, will be in Santa Cruz on Thursday, June 11th in the morning.

The international team from 7 different countries is on a 4-month journey through all 50 states in honor of the 250th Anniversary of America. They share a message that peace begins with the individual. Along the route, they meet with schools, youth organizations and groups to give local citizens an opportunity to express their hopes and dreams for peace.

The team will cover 51 miles on the 11th, running from Moss Landing to Año Nuevo State Park on Rte. 1, passing the Peace Torch along the way.

NANCY PARK REMEMBERED

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear colleague Nancy Park. Nancy passed away after a brief battle with glioblastoma.

The weeks leading up to her passing were tender and difficult for all of those close to her. Nancy remained dedicated to her work at the Center until her very last days. She held a place here with us, knowing that her days might be numbered. Nancy not only LOVED her community she showed up for us. She showed up for all of it. She showed up for causes dear to her heart and to support those that needed tender attention and care.

“One of my favorite memories was watching her massage the shoulders of a mutual friend attempting to ease her visible emotional pain during an event. Her children watched too as if it was just another day in their life with their beautiful, loving mama.” — Silvia Morales

After receiving her diagnosis, Nancy inspired all of us in profound ways. She spoke of being grateful for the medical care she was receiving while surrounded by her loved ones—even as she held in her heart those in Gaza and other targeted places who are navigating cancer amidst bombs, starvation, and unfathomable loss.

We will miss Nancy’s fire and drive to quell injustice. She will forever live on in our memories as a tender but powerful force for all that is true, good and just.

RE:OINGO BOINGO

I grew up in Orange County, California in the ‘70s and ‘80s. New wave was the music then. KROQ was the station everyone listened to. I didn’t know they weren’t a mainstream band back then because Oingo Boingo got a lot of air play. “The Valley Girl,” “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” The Breakfast Club” and all other John Hughes movies.

The movies reflecting on life during that age had a lot of impact on the Gen-X generation in California. The groups I remember in that era are unforgettable. I still listen to the music of that era. I know KROQ is still around. That station back in the day made a big impact on us youth. A lot of the DJs during those days are still DJs on the New Wave and ‘80s stations on SiriusXM. I have them pre-programmed in my satellite radio. I’m glad I ran up on this article. It brought up a lot of fond memories!!

RE: WOODY’S AT THE WATSONVILLE AIRPORT

Great that WOODY’S at the Watsonville Airport is finally open. I look forward to trying it out, and also when he is has a full menu. A beautiful and private location for a restaurant. Lots of good events in SC County.

HIGH FIVE, DUSTY

Awesome! So glad this book is on its way! I found a signed copy of that kid’s book he wrote about the Monterey trip a few years back at a thrift store. Was so lucky to have covered the G’s throughout his tenure. Everybody’s favorite, for good reasons.
