Sometimes it seems like the rest of the country doesn’t understand California is just as hometown and patriotic as they are (I’m thinking of what you see on Fox.) But Santa Cruz is just as stars and stripes as anywhere else.
You’d have to fly a plane to get to all the parades on time…and some did.

The city added a new parade in the Seabright neighborhood to attract more people to the area that had been badly affected by the closure of the Murray Street Bridge. Businesses have been suffering there and need all the help they can get from customers.
Watsonville had a parade, fireworks and an airshow at its airport that was a huge success, drawing a big crowd.
Scotts Valley kept its parade but lost its fireworks show due to budget constraints. Boulder Creek kept its century-old traditional parade.
For the record, the California Highway Patrol was busy over the weekend from July 2 to 5 with 546 citations issued, 306 for speeding; 186 verbal warnings; 24 arrests with 22 for DUI; and no fatal crashes.
