The article on the leader of Janus and her story was good, but the blurb for “INISIDE” was erroneous in saying Janus “helps cure addiction.” Addiction cannot be cured (only arrested one day at a time) I presume that was not a claim made by Janus or its leader but an editorial error. Please make that clear to your readers.

(This is written in response to Suki Wessling’s letter in our September 23rd issue)
I am impressed with Wessling’s tolerance for music that to many ears came across as pretentious and inauthentic. But I reject her insulting accusation that I possess an “unvarnished disgust” for the composer in question. I am mystified by her attempt to brand me as having “poor character.” My criticism was of a piece of music, not of the composer’s gender identity. By couching her remarks in political terms, i.e. referencing the trans status of the composer, Wessling herself is flipping the script, away from aesthetic value into politics. To insist that negative criticism of an artwork is always a criticism of the composer’s gender choices, is to succumb to the confusion of ad feminum argument. Should disliking the music of Aaron Copland be considered homophobic? I suggest Wessling re-read Hennies’ program notes.

FATAL UPDATE
I am writing to share a community update regarding a fatal DUI accident in October 2023 on Highway 1 and Highway 183. The case against the driver, Tessa J. Knight has reached a conclusion in Monterey County court.
Key Facts: The Sentencing: On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Tessa J. Knight (now 26) was sentenced to six years in prison.
The Plea: This follows a plea deal finalized in June 2026 where she pled guilty.
The Victim: Keenan Jackson (39) of Watsonville was a beloved bank manager, crossfit coach, athlete and father of two young children. His community sorely misses him.
Additional facts shared during the sentencing: Tessa Knight was over 2x the legal limit for blood alcohol, she was speeding at 75-78mph and attempting to overtake when she collided head on with Keenan Jackson’s Subaru. He was DOA, Tessa was taken to a Salinas hospital and treated for a broken leg and other injuries.
