.What more could be done to combat bike theft in Santa Cruz?

lt steveUse the bicycle lockers downtown, they’re five cents an hour, they’re all over town. There’s one by the bus stop, one by the Goodwill. You just have to look for them. You always wonder what those green boxes are.

lt isabelleBait bikes. Set up a nice bike with a high- end lock and arrest the person that can cut through it. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

lt edwardDevelop an electronic locator device in them like Lo-Jack for bikes. And then at least you may be able to find where people are stashing them.

lt donI think what could be done is to crack down more on the transient, criminal element in town.

lt tylerYou definitely need to register your bike with the county. You get a little sticker, you put it on your bike so whenever it gets stolen you can give that number to the police and they have a way to track down your bike. It’s really important to get a U-lock as well as a cord lock so you can lock up your front tire.
