A WESTSIDE FAVORITE REVIVED

Last week, my husband and I stopped in with friends at Pizzaria Avanti and it was fabulous! (You know, it’s across from CVS on Mission St in the middle of the Palm Center).

It was warm, welcoming, had lovely new art, plants/flowers and felt more like the pizzaria of old. The food was really delicious and reasonably priced for Santa Cruz.

We started with beer and wine and a dish of warmed olives (the best in town!) with bread! Followed by noteworthy salads to share: the delightfully fresh Caesar Salad along with the outstanding Brussels Sprout Arugula Salad with a light shallot dressing. Next, 2 pizzas (yes, thin crust) – a Pepperoni and a veggie King Gorg – and the Veg Pesto Pasta dish! What a treat of a meal, including leftovers for the week!

We had to leave a pocket for their famous Pot De Crème (chocolate mousse with fresh cream on top)! Oh my!

I hope You too get to stop in soon!

PS: Another thing we love is that there are still no televisions. One can talk without shouting over noise! There is however gentle live music (thank you Ken) on some Thursday nights! And…Pizzeria is open EVERY night at 5pm including Mondays. Not many restaurants in SC are!

RE: NEW DIRECTOR OF THE 418 PROJECT

Dennis Bartok is one of the most brilliant and creative people I have ever met. Bless you for writing this article so your fellow artists can realize what a treasure they have in Dennis helming the 418 Project!

I’m one of Dennis’s oldest friends from Pittsburgh. From early on, one could tell his creativity and mind were unique and brilliant. Jayce and LeAnn also incredibly gifted. Im so proud to see the Bartok boys continue with their success and share their talents with others.

RE: SANTA CRUZ GUITAR 50th ANNIVERSARY

Richard Hoover and Santa Cruz Guitar are the best! Happy 50th to them from all the local musicians.

RE: RIO DEL MAR OWNERS BLOCKING PUBLIC PATHWAY

Typical. No one reads the article: “For now, enforcement is paused under a court-ordered stay.” – because this is such a huge article The court has granted temporary/preliminary relief to the homeowners, paused enforcement, and is still sorting out implementation details and possible restrictions. It’s a poorly written article, where the title is far more dramatic than the actual article.

I’d say, at this point, if they DON’T want people walking too close to their outside porch spots that THEY pay to extend the public walkway a certain distance away from those specific areas.

It’s the public’s RIGHT to walk past those apartments without being cramped into walking on the street because of the tiny-sized sidewalk behind their complex!
